Qatar Foundation’s Al Ghorrah for Literature and Arts has begun with a spectacular opening ceremony attended by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation.

On the first evening of the five-day showcase of creative talents, the centerpiece was the acclaimed play Al Feel Ya Malik Al Zaman. Written by the legendary playwright Saadallah Wannous and brought to life under the creative direction and production of Maher Salibi, the play features a cast including the renowned Jamal Sulieman.

The night also featured 1001 Nights: A Journey Through the Storm, performed by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, and a musical journey through Arabic poetry by Mustafa Said and the Asil Ensemble.

Her Excellency Sheikha Hind said: “Al Ghorrah for Literature and Arts casts light upon the rich tapestry of Arab-Islamic culture, spanning the ages from the dawn of Islam.

“From this enduring beacon, we take a spark, one that restores our civilization’s rightful standing among the nations, and ushers in a radiant future for generations yet to come.”

Al Ghorrah will host a diverse range of musical highlights, including the Yemeni orchestra Sada Alebda, a Qatari-Moroccan medley featuring Asmaa Mnor, and a special closing night performance by the celebrated artist Hamza Namira.

Sponsored by the Social & Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM), Al Ghorrah will continue until Monday, 2 December, from 5-10pm each day at Oxygen Park in Education City, and offer a wide variety of activities and events – from musical performances and theatrical showcases to poetry readings, school plays, educational workshops, and a daily parade. Workshops for children and families, such as calligraphy, puppet making, chest decorating, and leatherworking, will also be available throughout the event.

Alongside its performances, Al Ghorrah will also feature a variety of culinary experiences from countries including Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Morocco, Algeria, and Syria. These kiosks blend culinary exploration with storytelling, offering an immersive journey through different flavors, histories, and cultures.

Abdulrahman bin Abdullatif Al-Mannai, Chief Executive Officer of the Social & Sport Contribution Fund (DAAM), said: “The significance of Al Ghorrah for Literature and Arts lies in its celebration of the fusion of the past with the modernity of the present, creating a platform for cultural exchange.

“It is also an engaging cultural event that enhances community participation by providing opportunities for talented individuals to present their work and interact with the audience. At DAAM, we value the leading role played by the companies listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange through their contributions to the fund, which support such important cultural events and activities in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Al Ghorrah partners include the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Calendar, and Qatar Television.
