Qunoot prayer event shows solidarity with the Pale
Elisabeta Kadrija, Nov 01, 2023
In a display of solidarity and unity with the Palestinian people, students from QF’s Pre-University Education organized a unifying Qunoot prayer at Minaretein (Education City Mosque).
The collective prayer aimed to provide support and empathy to the people of Gaza and Palestine amid the hardships they are facing, with the event being attended by members of the Qatar Foundation (QF) community including students, teachers, and staff.
Rima Khader, an Arabic language teacher at Awsaj Academy – one of the schools under QF’s Pre-University Education said: "As a Palestinian with family living there, I carry a constant sense of unease and apprehension.
“Despite the physical distance that separates us, and often being unable to take direct action, I pray for their protection."
Khader emphasized the importance of teaching students about the Palestinian issue and Jerusalem, and connecting them with global events. “It is crucial for students to recognize the significance of these matters for Muslims, and we encourage them to actively engage.”
Ali Al Thani, a 10-year-old Awsaj Academy student, said: "When we pray together, we demonstrate our togetherness. Even though we are miles away, our hearts are with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, and that is what matters."
Muhammad Fahmy, an Arabic language teacher at Awsaj Academy, said: "Our foremost contribution is to engage in initiatives that uphold the Palestinian cause. It's heartening to witness students and colleagues uniting to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
"While our backgrounds may differ, today we are all united by our care and affection for Gaza's people. This support ensures they're not alone; all Arabs and Muslims stand with them."
The group prayer aimed to foster community unity as those attending prayed together for the safety and well-being of the Palestinians in Gaza who are facing such difficult times. Through this collective act of prayer, they sought to offer spiritual support and display the community's compassion for and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
