Qatar Cabinet Approves Early School Enrollment for Three-Year-Olds

Qatar Cabinet approved a proposal to allow children to enroll in kindergarten classes starting at the age of three, rather than the previous age of four.

In a meeting held on the morning of Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the Qatar Cabinet approved a proposal from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to allow children to enroll in kindergarten classes starting at the age of three, rather than the previous age of four.

The regular Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, took place at the Amiri Diwan.

Following the meeting, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi released a statement detailing the session's agenda and decisions:

The Cabinet was informed of the Shura Council's approval of a draft law concerning the handling of regulated products.
Approval was given for a draft law amending certain provisions of Law No. 25 of 2015 related to civil defense, which will be referred to the Shura Council.
A draft decision by the Minister of Interior identifying facilities where QatarEnergy will implement provisions of Law No. 25 of 2015 on civil defense was approved.
Approval was granted for a draft decision by the Minister of State for Energy Affairs on security and safety systems, electrical and water installation rules, and measures for securing service delivery equipment and devices.
The Cabinet approved a proposal from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to amend Article 6 of Law No. 9 of 2017, allowing children to enroll in kindergarten at three years old instead of four.
Measures will be taken to ratify a memorandum of understanding between Qatar and Nigeria for cooperation in combating illicit drug trafficking.
Approval was given for:
- A draft memorandum of understanding on sports cooperation between Qatar and Romania.
- A draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in organizing mobile exhibitions between Qatar Museums and M+ Museum Limited in Hong Kong.
The Cabinet reviewed a report on the participation of Qatar's delegation, led by HE Minister of Labor and Chairman of the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking, in the Fifth Government Forum to Combat Trafficking in Persons and made the appropriate decisions.
