The Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has returned home after a remarkable state visit to Nepal, marking the end of his tour to Asian countries including the Philippines and Bangladesh.
At Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport, the Amir was bid farewell by the President of Nepal, His Excellency Ram Chandra Poudel, along with other high-ranking Nepalese officials. This historic visit made His Highness the first Arab leader to visit the Himalayan nation.
During his meeting with President Poudel, the Amir expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He emphasized that his visit reflects the strong ties between Qatar and Nepal, hoping that the agreements and understandings reached during the trip would further strengthen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The Amir also praised the Nepalese community in Qatar, acknowledging their valuable contributions to the country's development across various sectors.
In Bangladesh, the Amir's visit was celebrated with a touching gesture – the authorities named a road and a park in the capital city of Dhaka after His Highness. The "Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Road and Park" stand as a symbol of the warm welcome and deep appreciation for the Amir's visit, which aimed to bolster bilateral relations.
The local media in Bangladesh hailed the visit as an important opportunity to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, diplomacy, and the military. The naming of public spaces after the Amir was seen as a sign of warmth and a new chapter in Qatar-Bangladesh relations.
In the Philippines, Amir's state visit was also warmly received, with local media praising the outcomes and the nine agreements signed between the two countries. These agreements focused on strengthening trade, investment, and addressing global challenges like climate change and human trafficking.
The Philippine President, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., expressed confidence that his discussions with the Amir would translate into stronger cooperation at all levels – commercial, governmental, and people-to-people. The Amir, in turn, commended the Filipino community in Qatar for their effective contribution to the country's development and progress.
As the Amir returns home, his Asian tour has not only reinforced Qatar's existing relationships but also opened new avenues for cooperation, cultural exchange, and economic opportunities with these important regional partners.
