In a powerful display of solidarity and support for the Palestinian people affected by the recent Israeli aggression in Gaza, Education City Stadium is set to host a star-studded fundraising match on December 15. The initiative, named "Stand With Palestine," is organized by the students of Qatar Academy Doha, featuring the participation of former and current football stars.
The young organizers, including Al Mayassa bint Tamim Al Thani, Maryam Ahmed Al Hajri, Nayef Rashid Al Kubaisi, Mahdi Hussein Al Ahbabi, and Asmaa Al Jaida, have initiated this charitable event to raise funds for humanitarian relief and support efforts in Gaza. The game, designed to engage the local community in acts of solidarity with the Palestinians, will see teams named "Qatar" and "Palestine" facing off.
Tickets for the event are priced at QR25 and can be purchased on the Q-Tickets website, with all proceeds earmarked for Gaza's humanitarian relief efforts.
More than 100 students from Qatar Academy Doha, currently undergoing training by the Asian Football Confederation similar to World Cup volunteers, will volunteer at the event. Their involvement signifies the importance of youth-led initiatives in expressing support for those undergoing hardship in Gaza.
The match, scheduled to kick off at 7 pm, will consist of two halves of 30 minutes each. Preceding the game, a one-hour introduction note by Abdullah Al Ghafri will set the stage for an evening of unity and support. Musical performances by artists Nasser Al Kubaisi, Dana Al Meer, Nasma Imad, and Hala Al Emadi will add cultural significance to the event, featuring songs like "Palestine Arabiya" and "Mawtani."
The organizers have planned engaging pre-match activities, including a drone show and a raffle draw for prizes during halftime. Notable participants include former and current Qatari and international players, media figures, social media influencers, and students from Qatar Academy Doha and the Palestinian School.
Nayef Al Kubaisi, a Qatar Academy Doha student, confirmed the participation of former Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Aboutrika and former Oman goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi, with promises of more surprise football stars being revealed soon.
During the match, donations will be collected in collaboration with Qatar Charity through a shared link on stadium screens, and the total amount raised will be announced during the event.
Mahdi Ahbab, another student from the academy, expressed hope that the 44,000-plus capacity Education City Stadium would be filled with fans, turning the event into a resounding success. "It will not just be a match but there will be many entertainment activities which will be organized for spectators," he stated.
Maryam Al Hajri, a twelfth-grade student at Qatar Academy Doha, highlighted the initiative's origin, saying, "The initiative began with our keenness to do something positive, after we saw what was happening to our brothers in Gaza, and the difficulties they are going through, and the importance of showing our support for them in this crisis and communicating this."
