The Katara Cultural Village Foundation has unveiled an exciting new initiative aimed at boosting awareness and education in the fields of space science and astronomy. Called the Katara Space Science Programme, this groundbreaking effort was announced during a press conference held yesterday.

The program is designed for students, researchers, and the general public, with the goal of advancing scientific research and understanding related to space. It will be implemented in collaboration with renowned space scientists from around the world.

Attending the press conference were Professor Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, Dr. Jim Adams, a former NASA Deputy Chief Technologist and Space Science Consultant, and Rashmi Agarwal, Founder and President of MAPS International.

Prof. Dr. Al Sulaiti expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership between Katara and leading space experts, many of whom have worked at prestigious institutions like NASA. He explained that the program aims to engage students, researchers, and specialists in astronomy and space sciences through comprehensive educational, cultural, and training initiatives guided by experienced professionals.

Highlighting Katara's dedication to promoting astronomical education, Prof. Dr. Al Sulaiti said, "Since the Al Thuraya Planetarium opened [in 2018], Katara has been committed to expanding knowledge in astronomy and space sciences through numerous agreements and partnerships with universities, educational institutes, and research organizations."

He expressed hope that the Katara Space Science Programme, with its advanced curricula and training modules, will help develop a skilled workforce in line with Qatar National Vision 2030's goal of diversifying the economy and nurturing future space science leaders.

Dr. Jim Adams, with over 35 years of experience in aerospace, commended Katara's support and the contributions of Jim Adams World and MAPS in advancing space science education. He highlighted that the Katara Space Science Programme, launching through the Al Thuraya Planetarium, is the first of its kind in Qatar and the region. The program will feature lectures and training workshops by leading scientists from international institutions, attracting students and space enthusiasts.

Agarwal revealed that the Al Thuraya Planetarium will host a series of international events focused on space science and astronomy, in coordination with global space agencies. The program's official launch will take place from June 25 to 27, featuring lectures and workshops for students aged 13-18, with a focus on climate science. Additionally, a monthly Katara Astronomy Forum and an art exhibition connecting arts and space sciences will enhance the cultural and educational experience for participants and the public.

This new program represents a significant step forward for Qatar in fostering interest and expertise in the exciting fields of space science and astronomy, aligning with the country's vision for a diversified and innovative economy.
